Basic Game is finally here!
It’s been a bit of a struggle getting the final PDF together and I appreciate everyone’s patience, many people use the new PDF app take a look on the website sodapdf.com.
Most of the changes are editing/rewording/tightening up, a fair bit more advice on the DM’s end, and some slight tweaking and re-balancing of the class Powers. I look forward to your comments and thoughts in the forums!
More than that, I went through the entire layout and rasterized/optimized all the funky fonts and other compression issues that were causing problems for people, and it bought us the added bonus of making the PDF quite lightweight, under 3 megs. If you have any issues viewing it, please let me know!
Without further ado, I present to you…
Wow. I really like the art on the cover and the layout for the book. Looks great. Sounds awesome. I will look forward to giving it a read through.
Hi,
Congratulations on finishing up your game! I’m a big fan of Redbox Hack, so it’ll be interesting to compare the games.
I was also very happy to see that you released OSH under an open licence! I’m a little confused as to which Creative Commons licence you chose — is it CC Attribution-Noncommercial?
Cheers,
Chris
Kirin, this is excellent and inspiring!

Yup! Feel free to hack away. I’m less-concerned about the attribution and more concerned that derived works should be free as well, in the spirit of Eric’s original game.
Thanks GG.
I named a class after you. 😉
“Yup! Feel free to hack away.”
Thanks Kirin! I do have a hack or two in mind, but I was mainly interested so I could add Old School Hack to my wiki for open games:

Please let me know if there are any changes or additions you would like (or feel free to make them yourself).
Cheers,
Chris
Most awesome indeed!
Hi, Kirin!
I’ve sent you a whisper in Story Games. Would you please let me know if you may be interested?
Thanks and have a nice day. I’ll have a hard one. My brain has just exploded after reading half of your game’s manual… there’s just too much awesomeness in it!
Just wanted to say thanks and let you know I put up a review. It was using the playtest documents, but I’ll get around to test-driving the Basic beta and write more.
You can find the review here: http://swordsedge.ca/2011/01/hackin-it-old-school/
Thanks again. This has become my go-to fantasy/S&S game.
This is AWESOME! Very nice. What fonts did you use? I’d love to create some similar material, but I’d love to replicate the font theses you have here in this excellently and attractive PDF. Thanks in advance
Oops. Spoke too soon. The font answer is here: http://forums.oldschoolhack.net/discussion/comment/418/#Comment_418.

wow, lots of great stuff here. I’m really excited to try this out.
Wow…this is some good stuff. I am really into RPG’s right now and this is lookin’ pretty good. I’ll have to try it out soon. For those who like good RPG’s try this site:

It’s pretty cool ‘cuz you get to choose the setting and time for the whole thing.
OSH kicks ass like nothing else but as great as it is, the layout and presentation is even better. For instance, I kinda knew the concept of arenas was cool but with this game, I finally wrapped my head around it and what I can really do with it.
This means I’m not only instantly going to play OSH but I bet I’ll rediscover a few games I read but never gave a chance in play.
Mainstream game companies need to hunt down people like you, abduct them, chain them to a desk and have them do all the layouts of their game lines. Forever.
Mucho thanks for perpetuating the CC status of the original source and making this available to all! Take care and I am looking forward to the “heroic tier”
This is very, very cool. Definitely going to find a way to work this game into my schedule.
